College of Educ. & Human Sciences/Textiles, Clothing and Design Students

For Students in the College of Education & Human Sciences - Textiles, Clothing and Design students, the principal software they will use in upper level Apparel and Merchandising courses is proprietary and not available to them on their personal computers. As of the academic year 2011-12, all students have lab access that provides software that meets their course computing needs.

Our TCD/Communications majors likewise have access to computer labs both here in HE building and in Andersen Hall. Therefore, for the time being, there is no urgent reason for our students to have laptops except at their own discretion, since our building has two fully equipped computer labs at their disposal.

If students wish to purchase software for their personal computers, here is what they will need. In the first year Visual Literacy course, they will use Adobe Photoshop a fair amount, and Adobe Illustrator some (this use is expected to increase in the coming years). In their 2nd and 3rd years they will use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop fairly extensively in several of our courses. (Registered students are able to purchase the Adobe Design Premium Suite which includes Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Flash Prof., InDesign, PhotoShop Ext., Fireworks, and Dreamweaver) .

TCD Merchandising and Product Development courses use Microsoft Office programs extensively, especially Excel. Once you receive your NU ID (student ID), you will be able to purchase Microsoft Office for Mac or Windows for $20 from the UNL Computer Shop on campus. There is no need to purchase it beforehand.

The College of Education & Human Sciences does not request you purchase from a specific vendor.

Adobe allows the UNL Computer Shop to sell this software at hugely discounted prices for students.
