SoySim is a computer program that simulates growth and development of soybean (Glycine Max. L. Merr.) under favorable growth conditions without limitations due to water, nutrients, weeds or pests. The simulation is based on daily weather data. The model allows user to:
• Assess yield potential at a given site and its variability in relation to long-term weather data
• Evaluate changes in attainable yield as affected by planting date, maturity group, and plant density
• Explore options for optimal irrigation management
• Conduct in-season simulations to evaluate actual growth and to forecast final yield
SoySim does NOT allow assessment of nutrient management options nor does it account for yield losses due to weeds, insects, diseases, lodging, or other abiotic and biotic stresses. SoySim has been evaluated primarily in rainfed and irrigated soybean cropping systems in the US Corn Belt where the crop was grown under favorable conditions. Caution should be exercised when applying this model to other environments as this may require changes in some of the default model parameters.
