4-H Curriculum

The activity book is for youth to use as they work with the project activities.  Each page of the youth’s activity book corresponds to the Helper’s Guide and the multiple activities they can do.

• Keeping youth healthy and safe while learning and having fun is important.  The first part of this Helper’s Guide will help you help children to use safe tools, products, and practices.

• Section 1.  Hang It, Fold It, Keep Your Space Neat, introduces youth to ways to keep their space or room organized with less clutter while making it easier to find their things.

• Section 2.  Save It, Recycle It, Reuse It, the second section, helps youth help the environment by reducing energy and water use and making recycling easier.

• Section 3.  Color it, Paint It, Create It, involves youth in experiencing color through mixing and using colors to create items for their space or room, or for others.

Develop a designer’s “touch” by navigating through four exciting sections of this NEW curriculum. Design My Place - formerly Home Building Blocks- is a project of discovery and activity. This poster is an introduction to the Design My Place project. The poster is packed with activities that introduce youth to terms and concepts they will learn about home environment. In each part of the home, they will find questions and suggested activities designed to increase their curiosity about the project. Youth can set goals and track their progress through the Design My Place project. Youth can also get creative in coloring the the house and hang the poster in their space as a reminder and guide as they work through the project. This 4-H knitting manual is a teaching guide for the leader and provides information for the 4-H member. It contains objectives for the three levels of knitting so a 4-H member and leader will know the expectations for each level. The teaching outline will help the leader see the concepts to be learned and offer suggested ideas for doing activities. Suggested items to knit are given at each level. Directions are included for them. This manual is not intended to be a complete guide on knitting, but it will provide a staring place for discussion and research. Learn More

On Your Own and OK serves as an excellent tool to teach youth about safety when home alone. The goal of this curriculum is to educate parents and youth on the importance of family communication in providing a safe home environment.

Creative Corners includes ideas and designs of quilts with squares and rectangles, and is good for beginning quilters. Emphasis is on making very creative quilt projects using just squares and rectangles.

Quilt Quest is a comprehensive curriculum that teaches youth about quilts from design and construction to care, preservation and even about entrepreneurial opportunities. Quilt Quest project blocks are designed to supplement the Quilt Quest curriculum with specific quilt projects. These project blocks assume some level of sewing skill, and are not designed for those with no prior quilt making experience. The skills required for each Project Block correspond with the block numbers. Project Block 1 is the most basic and requires only basic beginning skills. Subsequent blocks require increasing levels of skill and mastery, ending with level 8. They do not offer step by step instructions with illustrations of each step.

If youth are interested in using the Quilt Quest project blocks but do not have sewing skills, they should be able to do so successfully with the help of volunteers who understand sewing techniques. We strongly suggest that anyone using Quilt Quest project blocks also have access to the Quilt Quest curriculum CD for reference. Project Blocks will be available on CD-ROM and will be released one at a time.
