Description: Twenty-five percent of the water samples taken from irrigation wells, as part of a cooperative groundwater quality study of northeastern Nebraska, contained nitrate-nitrogen levels in excess of the federal limit of 10 parts per million (ppm) set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These results indicated that the groundwater in northern Antelope, northern Pierce and southern Knox counties had probably been contaminated to varying degrees.
